When it comes to getting a six pack, the first thing you need to do is dispell the myth that all that is rerquired is that you exercise your abdominal muscles with crunches and sit-ups.
You can do hundreds of crunches or sit-ups a day and still not see any difference.
This doesn’t mean that your abs are not becoming toned. In a lot of people it simply means that you can’t see the results because your abdominal muscles are surrounded by body fat.
Many people will have a layer of fat around the stomach area, and this will hide the appearance of your abs. Unfortunately this fat around the stomach area is often more stubborn to get rid of than from other parts of the body, and can require a lot of effort.
So remember – you can tone your abs and other muscles but you cannot tone body fat – it must be burnt off.
So if you want to achieve that six pack look, you will have to do two things.
Firstly you wil have to lose body fat and secondly you will have to exercise your abs to tone them.
To lose body fat you must ensure that your energy output is greater than your energy input (from food & drink), this can be achieved by increasing your activity (exercise) or reducing the amount of calories you consume, or better still a combination of both.
As well as losing body fat you will need an exercise program that will allow your abdominla muscles to become toned.
Its best to have a routine that involves a degree of variety. If you just repeat the same basic exercises time and again, your muscles will grow accustomed to the strain and will grow to accomodate this strain. If you continue with little or no variety to your routine, your muscles will have no incentive or requirement to grow any further.
