Abs Diet : Eat Your Way To a Great Six Pack
As we know, if you want to get great looking abs, you need to be doing two things. Firstly you need to be toning your abdominal muscles and secondly you need to be losing body fat.
Here’s some quick tips to point you in the right direction for losing that stubborn body fat.
- Lower Your Intake - The principles of losing weight (and therefore body fat) are really pretty simple. You need to burn up more calories than you take in (Your output must be greater than your input). If you cut your daily calorific intake by around 500 calories your body will begin using up energy stored as fat to make up teh shortfall. Do not lower your calorific input by too much though. Starving yourself will cause your body to take energy from your muscles instead of from body fat.
- Avoid Alcohol - For a start, alcohol is generally high in calories, but importantly it will reduce the amount of fat calories that your body will burn. Alcohol can also be responsible for giving you an increased appetite.
- Eat Frequently/Eat Less - Instead of having fewer large meals, try eating smaller amount 5 or 6 times a day. Eating more often will help you stop craving and feeling hungry, it will also help you retain a healthy blood sugar level. Do not leave it longer than 4 hours between food intake, as this will cause your body to reduce its fat burning capacity.
- Get Your Protein - Your body will use around 25% more energy to digest protein than it does to digest Carbs. Taking in more protein will also help to build muscle. Try and eat plenty of fish, chicken, turkey, milk, eggs and pulses. All are rich in protein.
- Eat the Right Kind of Carbs - When it comes to Carbohydrates you want a slow release of energy. Avoid processed carbs such as baked goods and white bread and try and stick to foods such as lentils, oats, beans, brown rice and whole wheat.
- Drink Plenty of Water - You should ideally be drinking around 2 litres of water per day. This will help flush the toxins from your body and will also help to stop you feeling hungry.
